The Board has updated the district's mobile device policy in alignment with recent changes in Nebraska state law. The recently passed Legislative Bill 140 requires all school boards to have a policy restricting student cell phone use. While our district has had a policy in place, this update serves to further clarify expectations for our students.
Starting this fall the following procedures will be followed:
High School: Students may only use their mobile devices - including phones and smartwatches - during passing periods and lunch. Use during class times is not permitted unless explicitly allowed by a teacher for educational purposes.
This policy was shaped by valuable feedback from students, families, and staff. It aims to strike a balance between responsible use and minimizing distractions during instructional time.
